LSHRM's Spring 2010 Certification Study Group
Have you looked at the employment ads lately? The PHR and SPHR designations are very often preferred by advertising employers in the Louisville market because certification is the symbol of professional achievement in the field of HR. Beyond experience and education, the PHR and SPHR designations signify that you have mastered the HR body of knowledge. Description
LSHRM is please to offer its Spring 2010 PHR/SPHR Certification Preparation Study Group! This is a discussion-based format where we use practice questions as a "jumping-off" point to talk about the issues. We make it a point to discuss not only what the right answer is, but also why it is the right answer and why the other answers are not correct. Our facilitators are industry experts with real-world, practical examples to add to the discussion.

Sessions are held at Webster University - 1031 Zorn Ave, Ste 200 (just off I-71) - 502-896-1835.

Schedule
The Spring 2010 PHR/SPHR Study Group will begin on Monday, February 22 and will run for 12 weeks. Each session is scheduled from 5:30-7:30pm. Due to Webster's course schedule, the first 3 weeks will be held on Mondays; the remaining sessions will be on Tuesdays.
Fee
The PHR/SPHR Study Group is a FREE benefit for LSHRM members. There is a $75 fee for non-members.
Materials
LSHRM uses the SHRM Learning System to facilitate the Study Group. Participants are not required to purchase these materials; however, LSHRM does recommend the use of a current (or recent) copy of the SHRM Learning System Participant Guide. These materials are updated each year and using a previous version may hinder full participation in the group.
LSHRM is able to offer the SHRM Learning System materials at a significant discount of only $525! (The cost of purchasing through SHRM is $650 for SHRM members and $795 for non-members!)
How to Sign Up
Please register for the Study Group through the Calendar of Events on this website. You will have the option to use a credit card for any associated fees. If you need to pay by check or make other arrangements for the associated fees, select the "Pay at the Door" option.

Info about Upcoming Exams
Certification exams are offered at three levels: Professional in Human Resources (PHR, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR). If you are interested in becoming certified or knowing more about certification, visit the HR Certification Institute web site. It is your best source of information.
If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the Certification Handbook and an application to take the exam, you may download the handbook from their website.
The next exams will be given according to the schedule listed on the HRCI webiste.
- The Spring 2010 test window is May 1 - June 30, 2010.
- The regular deadline for applying to take the exam during the next testing window is March 16, 2010 (late deadine is April 16, 2010).
