Recruiting for a Diverse Workforce

You asked for it! You got it! LSHRM members' survey responses said you want more education on recruiting for diversity, so the April program is on that very topic! Come hear Dr. Erin Miles and Dr. Tim Findley as they lead an open discussion about recruiting for diversity.

March SPOT Award Winner

On behalf of the LSHRM Board of Directors, we would like to recognize Kelly Groves as our March 2018 SPOT Winner!  Kelly is a longtime LSHRM Board member and continues to train new board members on policies and procedures. Kelly is the type of volunteer that you can count on to do exactly what she says. As the VP of Administration, we rely on her a lot. She keeps the minutes and internal business operations running smoothly and hasn’t missed a beat. Even with the loss of her mom and then a heavy increase in workload this year, Kelly is always worried about LSHRM. We are so grateful to have her!

Thanks Kelly for all you do for LSHRM!

LSHRM Online Professional Development Portal

Attention All HR Presenters!

We are currently looking for content for our new LSHRM Online Professional Development portal.

If you are an expert in an HR related area and would like to create a presentation to educate our members, we would like to talk to you about submitting a video or audio presentation to add to our list of presentations. All it takes is a smartphone and 45 minutes to an hour of your time to record your presentation. This is an awesome way for subject matter experts to market their knowledge, skills and/or business.

LSHRM will charge a $15 fee to view presentations that are approved for SHRM professional development credits. Proceeds from the courses will go to the SHRM Foundation.  Please contact Michelle Russell at mrussell@lshrm.org to submit a presentation or answer questions you may have.

Legislative Update

At the National Level

With the passage of The Bipartisan Budget Act on February 9th, hardship withdrawals from employer-sponsored 401(k) and 403(b) retirement plans will be easier for employees to make. Among the numerous provisions in the 640 page document, the act will allow employees not only to withdraw their own money but also to take the earnings on the money and company contributions as part of a hardship withdrawal. To address the potential for poor financial decision making, employers should caution employees that borrowing money from their retirement accounts now could severely limit their future savings. SHRM members can read more at Budget Law Eases 401(k) Hardship Withdrawals.

At the State Level

A revision of the highly anticipated and controversial Kentucky Public Pension Reform bill was introduced to the Senate on February 20th. The legislation will be debated in the legislative committee system before it has a chance to be heard by the full Senate.
