Fall SHRM Certification Study Group

It’s that time of the year again. LSHRM is launching our Fall SHRM Certification Study Group on Monday, September 10th from 5:45 – 7:45. This is a six-week program and will end on Monday, October 15th.

Legislative Update - Healthcare

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed two bills that enhance and seek to expand the use of health savings accounts.

HR6199 would allow people with health savings accounts to count gym memberships, the purchase of certain sports equipment and certain over-the-counter medications as qualified medical expenses. It would also give spouses more opportunity to contribute to their partner’s HSA (in situations where the spouse has a flexible spending account).

HR 6311 would 1) increase the maximum contribution to health savings accounts 2) allow both spouses to make catch-up contributions to the same health savings account 3) allow working seniors to contribute to HSAs and 4) allow balances on flexible savings accounts to be carried over. It would also delay the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance tax for another two years.

"These changes will provide employers with greater flexibility to design benefit offerings to meet the needs of their employees and their families [and] … retain and recruit talent," said Chatrane Birbal, director of the Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM's) congressional affairs, health and employee benefits policy. "SHRM fully supports the repeal of the restrictions on the use and limits on contributions to health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts." As health costs have increased for workers and employers alike, HSAs and FSAs "can enable thousands of businesses to continue offering employment-based health coverage."

LSHRM Friends - We need your help to volunteer for two hours at the SHRM Foundation Book Nook at the KY SHRM State Conference, Aug 28-30 at the Omni Hotel in Louisville. Just click the link below, and a Google Excel Spreadsheet will open. Type your name, email address, and cell phone number in the time slots you commit to volunteer. Then go to the Book Nook at the Omni Hotel at your volunteer time. The sheet automatically saves your entries.

We have HUNDREDS of donated books to sell at the Book Nook with all proceeds going to KY SHRM’s donation to the SHRM FOUNDATION! Our goal is to raise $4,000. But we can’t do it without you.
