Fall SHRM Certification Study Group
It’s that time of the year again. LSHRM is launching our Fall SHRM Certification Study Group on Monday, September 10th from 5:45 – 7:45. This is a six-week program and will end on Monday, October 15th.
Here is some feedback from a previous participant that just passed her exam:
“The study group made me feel so much more confident in my preparation for the exam. It’s a fantastic resource!” – Jessica SHRM-CP
Did you know that certified human resource professionals increase their salary potential by $20,000 annually (Rogers, 2013)? Even if you’re still thinking about when you might take the exam, check out the study group to gauge how ready you are for the exam. Don’t miss this opportunity to advance your career and put you a step above other candidates.
This study group is FREE for LSHRM members! If you are not a member, the cost to participate is $70AND includes your LSHRM membership for one year. This will put you in step to continue professional development and training once you earn your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.

Legislative Update - Healthcare
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed two bills that enhance and seek to expand the use of health savings accounts.
HR6199 would allow people with health savings accounts to count gym memberships, the purchase of certain sports equipment and certain over-the-counter medications as qualified medical expenses. It would also give spouses more opportunity to contribute to their partner’s HSA (in situations where the spouse has a flexible spending account).
HR 6311 would 1) increase the maximum contribution to health savings accounts 2) allow both spouses to make catch-up contributions to the same health savings account 3) allow working seniors to contribute to HSAs and 4) allow balances on flexible savings accounts to be carried over. It would also delay the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance tax for another two years.
"These changes will provide employers with greater flexibility to design benefit offerings to meet the needs of their employees and their families [and] … retain and recruit talent," said Chatrane Birbal, director of the Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM's) congressional affairs, health and employee benefits policy. "SHRM fully supports the repeal of the restrictions on the use and limits on contributions to health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts." As health costs have increased for workers and employers alike, HSAs and FSAs "can enable thousands of businesses to continue offering employment-based health coverage."
You’re in charge of your recertification journey. And SHRM’s here to support you.
We've adapted our recertification process to provide additional flexibility to match your learning needs.
Going forward, SHRM will no longer have a maximum limit on self-paced activities, in the ‘Advance Your Education’ category.
