Silent Auction for SHRM a Success
A silent auction was held during the November 13th chapter meeting, and $2360.00 was raised for the SHRM Foundation. Thanks to board members and volunteers who contributed a bottle of wine and/or a gift card. Many thanks to the members who contributed beautiful baskets that attendees could not resist. And lastly, thanks to the volunteers who helped build baskets, create a lovely event table, and to those who worked to ensure a smooth check-out.
With the silent auction and basket sales at chapter meetings, we have raised $3200 this year. STILL, your help is requested. If you have not yet made your contribution, donations for 2018 are accepted through December 31, 2018.
November SPOT Award Winner
On behalf of the LSHRM Board of Directors, we would like to recognize JANESSA MORAN, our Finance Director and November 2018 SPOT Award winner. Being a finance director for any non-profit is a tremendous fiduciary responsibility, and Janessa does a great job with the financials each month.
She consistently attends board and monthly meetings and always provides reports in a timely manner. Janessa is also quick in her responses to inquiries and has an unfailingly positive and upbeat spirit! I know the entire Board of Directors would agree that she is a huge support to the Executive team.
We are grateful for her continued commitment to LSHRM!
Legislative Update - Retirement Savings
On November 1, the Treasury Department announced inflation-adjusted figures for retirement account savings for 2019, and there are a lot of changes that will help employees save more in their accounts.
Good News! The contribution limit for employees who participate in 401(k), 403(b), most of 457 plans and the federal government’s Thrift Savings Plan is increased from $18,500 to $19,000.
The limit on annual contributions to an Individual Retirement Account is being increased from $5,500 to $6,000 for 2019.
See IRS Notice 2018-83 for technical guidance about opportunities to save more!
HR and payroll manager should plan to adjust their systems for the new year and to inform employees about the new limits in year-end open enrollment materials.
Does your company have internships it is looking to fill? Well look no further, LSHRM recently created a new internship portal located in the workforce section of the LSHRM website. Internship Central is a new resource that has been created to house internships (from any field of study) that are available from employers in the Greater Louisville region. Not only is this resource available at no charge to LSHRM members, there is no cost for non-LSHRM members as well. Our hope is that this site will serve as a one-stop resource for local colleges and universities. Launched in late October, the site is still fairly new, but ready for you and your colleagues to post any available internships. Check it out and let us know what you think!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to CommunityCollegeRelations@lshrm.org.
