November Chapter Meeting: Detour (Change Management) with Hall of Fame, International Speaker STEVE GILLILAND

LSHRM would like to invite you to attend our largest and most innovative program of the year! If you’re a business leader, you need to be at this event! SPOT Award Winner for October

On behalf of the LSHRM Board of Directors, we would like to recognize MICHAEL Rider as the October 2018 SPOT Award Winner!

Mike Rider is our fundraiser extraordinaire! Whenever we’re in a crunch for sponsor dollars, Mike always has someone in his network he can call to help LSHRM. If he doesn’t, no worries, he’ll just sponsor himself and donate dollars from his own business.

Legislative Update - ADEA

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act is in the spotlight as the Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments for the Mount Lemmon Fire District v Guido No 17-587. An opinion is pending.

The case brings into question whether the ADEA applies to all public employees regardless of how many employees they have or does it apply only to public employees with at least 20 employees.

The case is about the Mount Lemmon Fire Dept with 11 employees whose chief resolved a budget shortfall by eliminating 2 positions – held by the 2 oldest employees in the district.

Last year, Louisville based chain Texas Roadhouse agreed to pay $12 million to settle an age discrimination lawsuit filed by the EEOC in 2011 claiming the chain failed to hire people age 40 and older for ‘front-of-the-house” jobs like hosts, bartenders and servers.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the ADEA. For employers, the guidance is to recognize the value of age diversity in the workplace and the benefits of a multi-generational workforce.

Internship Central

Does your company have internships it is looking to fill? Well look no further, LSHRM recently created a new internship portal located in the workforce section of the LSHRM website. Internship Central is a new resource that has been created to house internships (from any field of study) that are available from employers in the Greater Louisville region. Not only is this resource available at no charge to LSHRM members, there is no cost for non-LSHRM members as well. Our hope is that this site will serve as a one-stop resource for local colleges and universities. Launched in late October, the site is still fairly new, but ready for you and your colleagues to post any available internships. Check it out and let us know what you think!
