Legislative Update:

OT Proposal

On March 7, the Department of Labor announced its plan to raise the salary threshold to $35,308—which falls between the current $23,660 cutoff and the $47,476 threshold approved by President Barack Obama's administration but blocked by a federal judge. The proposal must go through the formal rulemaking process, which includes a comment period. Employers-and other interested members of the public-that wish to comment on the proposal may do so by visiting www.regulations.gov. They will have 60 days to comment from the time the rule is published in The Federal Register. After consideration of the comments submitted, a final rule will be published. In general, the business community has described the salary threshold as fair, but worker advocates say the proposed level isn't high enough. The DOL estimated the final rule will take effect in January 2020. If the rule is finalized, the DOL estimates that more than a million employees will receive raises or become eligible for overtime.

Best Buddies Friendship Walk 2019

Join team LSHRM for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk on April 20th, 2019.

Be awesome and support Best Buddies!

Everybody needs a friend. But not everybody has one. It can be very hard for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to make connections on their own. So Best Buddies matches them with a peer volunteer to form a "buddy pair". New friends open up a whole new world of opportunities! And donations from people like you and me make local Best Buddies programs possible. Big, small, somewhere in between your support will not go unnoticed. Join us in giving the gift of friendship - register to walk with us at the Best Buddies Friendship Walk or make a donation today!

Internship Central

Does your company have internships it is looking to fill? Well look no further, LSHRM recently created a new internship portal located in the workforce section of the LSHRM website. Internship Central is a new resource that has been created to house internships (from any field of study) that are available from employers in the Greater Louisville region. Not only is this resource available at no charge to LSHRM members, there is no cost for non-LSHRM members as well. Our hope is that this site will serve as a one-stop resource for local colleges and universities. Launched in late October, the site is still fairly new, but ready for you and your colleagues to post any available internships. Check it out and let us know what you think!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to CommunityCollegeRelations@lshrm.org.
