Legislative Update: DOL Proposed Changes

The Department of Labor (DOL) has proposed rule changes in recent months that will impact both employees and employers.

SHRM largely supported the proposed overtime rule, given that it would allow employers to craft policies regarding compensation and flexibility that drive employee engagement. Meanwhile, SHRM supported DOL’s changes for regular rate regulations, which will benefit employers and employees alike on key issues, such as pay for leave and reimbursed expenses. Finally, SHRM supported the proposal to update joint employment regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act, noting that it would provide increased certainty to employers.

The agency will review all comments submitted before revising and issuing a final rule. Make sure to keep track of the implementation of the rules by following @SHRMAdvocacy on Twitter.
