To Mask or Not to Mask: Employer Options in Light of CDC Guidance and OSHA Announcement

Responding to a looming question for employers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently issued an announcement referring businesses to the CDC’s new guidance advising that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or social distance in non-healthcare settings. But neither OSHA’s May 17 announcement nor the CDC’s May 13 release provide specific direction to employers about whether and how they should proceed when it comes to developing unmasking policies and procedures for their employees. In light of the current state of the law, employers have three basic choices when it comes to masking policies for their workers: maintain full masking rules, require vaccinated workers to present proof of inoculation before being allowed to go without a mask, or ask employees to follow an honor system approach. What do you need to know about these three options?

Diversity Dialogue

Education | Conversations | Implementation

Hello LSHRM members, Community Partners, and Friends!

In 2020, the Society for Human Resources Management introduced a new initiative called Together Forward @ Work. The initiative is to promote racial equity for everyone, especially in our workplace. As human resource professionals, we are often the ethical meter for our workplaces and are charged with developing, coaching, and training employees to perform at their highest level. Often, we find ourselves not knowing the answers to situations that arise, but as critical thinkers, we seek out the answer and get the work done. In support of the Together Forward @ Work initiative, the Louisville Society for Human Resource Management is dedicated to providing educational and development opportunities in diversity, equity, and Inclusion to encourage ongoing conversations and learning for implementation and creating positive change within our workplaces. I’m excited to announce our Louisville Society for Human Resource Management Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Survey. The purpose of the survey is to provide a space for you to share your thought and maybe some questions to answers that you are seeking surrounding diversity, equity, and Inclusion. The LSHRM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee will use the results from the survey to create practical and relevant programming, seminars, and events for your professional and personal development. You can access the link to the survey here. We are excited to hear your thoughts!

Let’s continue this work together!
