In Memoriam

Kelly Groves

On December 8th, 2023, LSHRM suffered a tremendous loss when our Director of Membership, Kelly Groves, unexpectedly passed away. A great many of our members have met Kelly through her various roles on the Board of Directors and in the chapter at large, from New Member Orientations to networking events, and most could not help but be inspired by Kelly's warmth and dedication to our mission. Most recently, Kelly had agreed to serve as our next Chapter Vice President of Administration, and she was looking forward to finding new ways to help other professionals in that role.

Kelly's enthusiasm for LSHRM and her willingness to serve others can never be replaced. Despite this, we ask all our members, especially those who joined because of Kelly or who encountered her on their journey to LSHRM, to keep Kelly's spirit a continuing presence within our organization by dedicating themselves to serving others the way Kelly served others.

Additionally, the board has decided to recognize one outstanding volunteer within our organization who exemplify the dedication Kelly Groves showed every day to advancing LSHRM. The Kelly Groves Volunteer of the Year Award will be announced during our December chapter meeting each year based on the nominations of our membership throughout the year.

We will miss Kelly's warmth, her humor, and her energy, but we are thankful for her friendship and the wonderful memories we have of her both inside and outside of our chapter's business. We are also happy to be able to keep her memory alive through the award we are naming in her honor.

If you were positively impacted by Kelly's example and would like to honor her with a donation to a cause she cared deeply about, please consider giving to the SHRM Foundation to help educate the next generation of HR leaders. The SHRM Foundation provides scholarships, education, and other resources to HR professionals seeking to further their knowledge of the field and gain valuable certification in human resources.

NEW! LSHRM Workplace Violence Resources Hub

Shootings and other violent attacks are a sad reality of the world we live in—and the workplace is no safe haven. Our Workplace Violence Resource Hub page can help our members make sure workers know how to stay safe in the face of a threat and respond effectively to violent incidents in the workplace.

If you would like to share any relevant resources to be added to this page, email them to website@lshrm.org and we can add them to the list. Protecting each other from violence and harassment is the responsibility of all and, as a group, we can provide as much information as possible to help us make our workplaces safer and healthier for everyone.
